CURRENTS: new single A FLAG TO WAVE on the search for identity, sophomore record THE WAY IT ENDS out June 5th.

Connecticut bruisers CURRENTS are gearing up to release their sophomore record THE WAY IT ENDS, scheduled to be dropped worldwide on June 5th, 2020 via Sharptone Records. Blossoming from the thematic and spiritual continuation of critically acclaimed The Place I Feel Safest dating back to 2017 and follow-up to 2018’s I Let The Devil In EP, Brian Wille, Chris Wiseman, Ryan Castaldi, Dee Cronkite and Matt Young are back with their one-of-a-kind brand of death-infused metalcore channeled through a unique perspective and personal experience.

Along the announcement, Currents have unveiled the details of the record and unleashed a new single about the search for identity and purpose, titled A FLAG TO WAVE out on April 17th, 2020 via an official video. The song is the third material to be lifted from the upcoming album after forerunners Poverty Of Self and Second Skin.

Currents are armed to the teeth with ball crunching riffing, once again creating technically proficient guitar work. The song launches the listener into a bludgeoning hellscape at full speed, invoking a sense of urgency and frenzy. Encompassing a level of full-throttled intensity, the song showcases a soundscape full of blast beats battling against fierce vocals courtesy of Brian Wille, versus a delicious catchy chorus with passionate clean vocals. And not to mention the crushing breakdown dropping at the 3,14 minute mark. Parfait.

In this episode Currents turn their gaze inwards, frontman Brian Wille opened up about the lyrical inspiration as below:

A Flag to Wave is about the search for identity and purpose. This song goes out to anyone looking for meaning in their lives and to those who have already found it. Over the last four years, we have traveled the world trying to make a name for ourselves – playing shows with some of our favorite bands and touring all over the United States, Europe, the UK, and parts of Canada. We’ve been met with various hardships along the way, but have also been met with unprecedented kindness, support, and friendship that we will cherish and appreciate for the rest of our lives. There are no plans of stopping and with our new record, we plan to hit the world harder than ever.”

Currents  – A Flag To Wave Lyrics:

I find myself lost again

In a world that doesn’t know my name

This life I’ve worked for brings no substance to me

Why do I always feel like I’m going insane?

Determined to find my place

I seek the remnants of my fate

Forever loathing

Burdened by defeat

Your will is weak

You see yourself

Walk out on the dream

To live a life of peace

But do you get the life you want

If you never feel free?

I long for something

That I can represent

A flag to wave

To find my foundation

I long for something

To carry to the end

A flag to wave

A flag to wave

Stepping out of form

And into emptiness living a life devoid of passion

I’m here to show the world my face

Taking what you’ve abandoned

They will never know your name

Always in the dark

But still you hide your face

I just hope you’re listening

As you walk out on the dream

Nothing to lose, but nothing left to gain

I hope you get the things you want

While you wish that you were me

I long for something

That I can represent

A flag to wave

To find my foundation

I long for something

To carry to the end

A flag to wave

I’m dying to know

What it’s like to be unafraid to drown

I’m dying to know

What it’s like to live a life without the fear of being shut down

(Abandoning your post believing every lie

The flag you set down I’ll defend with my life)

Sway as the puppets sway

Nothing left to lose, nothing left to gain

So trade a number for your name and drown in misery…
