IN HEARTS WAKE address eco injustice with WORLDWIDE SUICIDE, commit to plant 1 tree for every 1k views.

After last critically acclaimed record ARK dating back to 2017, Aussie metalcore icons IN HEARTS WAKE have kept busy on the road and return on March 17th, 2020 with a brand new song called WORLDWIDE SUICIDE. Known for their lyrical inspiration often visiting the realms of climate change and environmental disputes, the five-piece comes back after three years to address ecological and social injustice. It’s a straightforward statement to encourage a positive action and real change, bringing to surface the problems humanity can no longer turn a blind eye to, otherwise summarized with slogan: ecocide is suicide.

Alongside the track, the band released an intense video and for every 1000 views, they have committed to plant one native tree to support the Earth, happening next spring in Australia. The mindset behind this is restoring part of a vital ecosystem with the hope that every viewer and their descendants will one day enjoy its benefits. The footage shows In Hearts Wake performing inside a house on fire, where each room represents an ecosystem that sees a human from every stage of life under threat. The wake-up call is clear: we are totally dependent on the Earth & its inter-dependent ecosystems for our survival. To harm any part of it, is to harm ourselves.

The songs is a slow burn ripper that keeps the listeners on their toes from start to finish blending riffs and ferocious vocals with a heavy-yet-catchy chorus and effective pacing. A sinister and densely layered backdrop sets up the atmosphere invoking a sense of creepiness and panic. This is perfectly reflecting the anger, discomfort and resentment surrounding mother Earth and our world collapsing.

Vocalist Jake Taylor opened up about the lyrical inspiration of the single and the story behind the most direct call to action the band has ever got across:

“The Antarctic has reached an all time high temperature of 20.7°C. The Australian bushfires have burned over 12 million hectares of land, killing over 1 billion animals. The Climate Crisis is pounding on our door and we need to take action while there is still a window to turn it around. It’s time for profound systemic change as individuals and as a community”.

The track opens with an intro called CRISIS including an excerpt of climate activist Greta Thunberg’s speech at the Climate Strike held in New York City in 2019. Jake Taylor has attended the event, and so continued:

“Last year I attended the NYC Climate Strike and half a million passionate people showed up led by Greta Thunberg. It was the first time in a while that I felt so much hope for the future. When we gathered at Battery Park I felt inspired to pull out my voice recorder. Greta delivered an incredible speech. Some of the elders around me likened it to the time they heard Martin Luther King deliver his ‘I have a dream’ speech in the 60’s.”

Finally, he stated:

“Music is both our art and our platform. I feel we have a responsibility as artists to challenge the status quo. What challenges has the potential to create change. If we can change, then we can evolve”.

In Hearts Wake – Worldwide Suicide lyrics:

It’s dying from the inside

It’s a wildfire lullaby

It’s the final kiss goodnight

It’s a worldwide suicide

Worldwide suicide

Worldwide suicide

It’s dying from the inside

It’s a wildfire lullaby

It’s the final kiss goodnight

It’s a worldwide suicide

Worldwide suicide

It’s a worldwide suicide

Shooting dice with your fucking life

Snake eyes coming back to bite

Cashing out in the afterlife

What remains of a parasite

It’s a worldwide

It’s a worldwide

Suicide
