FROM THE OCEANS.
The “Evolve or Die” concept.
From The Oceans is a metalcore outfit formed in 2014 by drummer Johis Reed and guitarist Julio Ferreyra, who recruited the rest of the members. The inspiration for the band’s name came from a videogame called AC:BLACK FLAG with the intention of expressing the idea of being like pirates. The concepts of travelling around the world, sailing the ocean and conquering lands, sacking the towns and set out to the deep blue sea once again were the main focus of the band expressed through music. These concepts changed progressively until the very last single out on July 23rd 2018. But let’s proceed in order.
At the beginning of 2015 From The Oceans debuted with a first 6-songs EP titled I Swear, By The Seven Seas. Between 2015 and 2016 the band called it quits after some members parting ways for personal life issues and interests.
In 2017 Johis Reed stood up and took over all instrumental roles, recording and producing the band’s upcoming new EP called DEMISE. On August 8th 2018, From the Oceans released the title track and lead single for the upcoming album via Youtube VEVO. That’s where the concept changed, and the original inspiration of the band’s name took another meaning.
With the eloquent theme of “Evolve or Die”, From The Oceans are now representing a promising band in the emerging metalcore soundscape. Real proof of resilience and passion, the band brings forward the idea of a humankind coming from the ocean and being forced to evolve in order to survive and ascend to the top of the animal realm.
FROM THE OCEANS. DEMISE SINGLE REVIEW.
Demise is the title track for upcoming EP by From the Oceans, and it’s an entirely instrumental track showing off the output and sound the band is back with. A melancholic arpeggio introduces the song and creates the climax for a punchy rhythmic section opening up after a few instants. This way, the track builds up a quick crescendo to allow pummelling blast beats to kick in. The song carries a solid groove and will unfold intensely either on faster sections and slower regular ones. The –core texture of the track is highlighted since its beginning and blended with subtle melodic lines due to the emphasis on the clean guitar licks. I have loved indeed the mix of the crunch and clean guitar displayed. From the Oceans are also making use of synth, daring to explore a dark harmonious side of metalcore wisely combined with blistering riffs. Demise is a very structured track, layering multiple elements as to create an effective blend of metalcore catchiness.
This is an engaging song which would easily allow a combination of merciless harsh vocals and clean singing, but indeed..it can fully shine its own light without any vocals. Well done From the Oceans, looking forward for DEMISE EP to be out.
